Sundowns star Jayden Adams admits discipline fears ahead of AS FAR clash

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams admits his disciplinary record this season is weighing heavily on his mind ahead of the two-legged CAF Champions League final showdown against AS FAR.

Adams missed Sundowns’ final two Betway Premiership fixtures after being sent off against Kaizer Chiefs last week – the second red card he has received during the 2025/26 campaign.

With continental football often played at an intense physical and emotional level, the midfielder acknowledged on Thursday that he cannot afford to lose control when the stakes are this high.

"It plays a lot on my mind because this is a big one you know. You have to be really careful and you don't want to put your team in a situation they don't want to be in, but if I put that behind me it should be good."

Sundowns host the first leg at Loftus Versveld on Sunday and Adams insisted that an aggressive approach in front of their home crowd would be the right approach.

Although AS FAR may not carry the same continental pedigree as some of North Africa’s traditional powerhouses, Adams believes that is exactly why they cannot be underestimated this weekend.

"I didn't play against them last year so I don't know them, but for us as a team we just focus on ourselves although we know what they do well but we mostly focus on ourselves. Going into this one is very difficult because we come from a loss," explained Adams.

The Champions League could very well be the only piece of silverware left for Sundowns to salvage this season but Adams hasn’t given up on the domestic league despite Orlando Pirates being favourites.

"There's a lot of pressure on us because we haven't won anything this season, but the pressure is a privilege for us and we are going to show up and do our best.

"In terms of the league, we are still top of the log so the pressure is on them. If we win on Sunday we can qualify for the Club World Cup which will be a massive achievement for us."
