Speaking exclusively to SABC Sport following his side's 1-1 draw with University of Pretoria on Sunday afternoon, a result which was enough to secure a quarterfinal spot against Windhoek City on Monday, Sibiya highlighted the importance of the tournament.
He added that the Pirates Cup also presents an opportunity to scout for new players to strengthen a squad already struggling with depth.
The competition concludes on Monday, 6 April, at the University of Johannesburg AW Muller Stadium.
"Its good preparation for us because of the uncertainty of WAFCON taking place, but now that we know it will come mid-year , we have to start and stop , which plays a key part in terms of our preparations as a team," said Sibiya.
"These tournaments , like the Pirates Cup, are a good start for us; there are good matches, and sometimes we use these games to also scout for players . You are not just playing to go all the way, but you are also checking who can help."
Uncertainty continues to surround the confirmation of the Hollywoodbets Super League fixtures, with Sibiya revealing that there are rumours the league could be split into two streams. He believes such a format could prove beneficial, as a reduced number of matches may result in a more manageable schedule and a more competitive campaign.
"I think right now we are still waiting for the powers that be to confirm the overall league fixtures. I heard rumors that the league is going to be broken into two streams, which also gives us fourteen games per season. But anything can happen ; we also need to sit down and understand how the structure will be set up , who is going where, and who is going to play where. However, I don't think it's going to be as much of a mess as previous seasons."
Ahead of the new Hollywoodbets Super League TS Galaxy Queens have added new players to the squad but Sibiya admits they are still looking to bolster their options after injuries hampered the Queen’s title ambitions last season. He confirmed the signings of Khanyisa Manengela and Relebogile Phala, both from UWC Ladies.
Sibiya also revealed that plans are underway to expand the club’s women’s development structures, with discussions around introducing under-15 and under-17 teams. The club currently has an under-19 squad that trains at the American International School of Johannesburg.
