The 21-year-old is one of the success stories of the Natal Rich Boys’ development pipeline, having been promoted from the reserve side as recently as last season.
Since then, Zikhali has grown in leaps and bounds, emerging as a key figure in the first team during the current campaign.
He has been a near ever-present in the Betway Premiership, missing only the opening match of the season before going on to feature in the 23 fixtures that followed. Zikhali’s influence has not been limited to consistency alone, with the midfielder also weighing in with crucial goals – including a standout contribution in Richards Bay’s thrilling 2-2 draw against Orlando Pirates last weekend.
Zikhali’s rising profile has also attracted attention beyond South Africa’s borders after he recently signed with European agency Lupus Sports, a move that could potentially pave the way for opportunities abroad, although there have been no formal offers or confirmed interest from rival clubs at this stage.
Despite securing Zikhali on a long-term contract, Richards Bay’s track record suggests the door remains open for a future transfer.
The club has previously sold key players even after tying them down, notably Yanela Mbuthuma, who joined Pirates shortly after signing a lengthy deal.
For now, Zikhali’s focus is on maintaining his impressive form and helping Richards Bay secure their topflight status, while potentially pushing for a top eight finish in the closing stages of the season.
