Relegation fear forced my hand – Tim Sukazi on sacking Beganovic

Beganovic had been at the club for over three years and was widely seen as untouchable but Sukazi acted decisively last week, appointing assistant coach Bernard Parker in the interim for the remainder of the season.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Sukazi said they could not afford to delay decisive action as results continued to deteriorate, with their topflight status at risk. 

"To be honest, to have a run of ten matches and only producing one point, I don't think anyone would argue against it to say that you're on a bad path. It came to a point where we were only left with five games, and I was clear to say that our priorities have changed. Our priority now is to stay in the league."

Galaxy have already picked up a crucial point against Magesi last weekend, with Sukazi arguing he would trade moving up the log table over the Nedbank Cup final against Durban City on Saturday.

Following his dismissal, Beganovic suggested the Galaxy model of selling key players – as well as several FIFA sanctions – worked against him. 

Sukazi has a different opinion... 

"The truth is that when you come to coach at TS Galaxy, I get to discuss in depth about our business model. We're a club that have been punching above it's weight without any headline sponsor. This means that at one point or another, we have to dispose our best players in order to sustain ourselves in the league, and that's what we've done. It can't be an excuse all of a sudden."

The chairman believes should survival be guaranteed in the coming weeks alongside a cup triumph, then Galaxy would have once again successfully punched above their weight.
