AmaZulu can challenge for the title says Arthur Zwane

AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane is not ruling out his side as dark horses in the Betway Premiership title race, but insists consistency will be crucial to their chances.

Now in his third season at the KwaZulu-Natal outfit, the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor has overseen a squad transition, with several senior players departing and younger talents being promoted to the first team.

Usuthu currently sit third, four points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with a game in hand. Zwane is optimistic about their potential but acknowledges that sustaining their challenge will be no easy task.

"We are conducting our project steadily and we are not putting ourselves under pressure. Winning consecutive games builds the confidence and the winning mentality of the players."

Usuthu ended the previous campaign with a remarkable fourth place finish behind the traditional big three.

Zwane admits they have to aim higher.

Asked directly about wanting to be among the chasing pack as they prepare to face Golden Arrows in the KZN derby on Saturday, Zwane insisted they were making great strides but perhaps not enough quite yet.

"We still have a long way to go because we've only played eight matches so for now we are just keeping our feet on the ground so that we can focus on each game as they come.

"Soon enough we will make our home ground in Durban a fortress, we are growing in many aspects and we are starting to believe that we are winners."
