Pirates handed fine by PSL disciplinary committee for 'spectator misbehaviour'

Orlando Pirates have been fined R200 000 by the Premier Soccer League's (PSL) Disciplinary Committee (DC) after being found guilty of 'spectator misbehaviour'.

The club's supporters invaded the pitch on 22 October at the Peter Mokaba Stadium following their second leg MTN8 Cup semi-final defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns. The Buccaneers lost 3-0 to the Brazilians.

In a statement released, PSL prosecutor Advocate Zola Majavu confirmed the club had admitted guilt on all charges.

"I can confirm that Orlando Pirates Football Club, earlier this morning, appeared before the PSL DC to answer to spectator misbehaviour, in that spectators, fans or supporters invaded the pitch after the final whistle an MTN8 fixture," Majavu said.

"They pleaded guilty as charged."

Pirates were fined R200 000, half of which is suspended for 24 months, on condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence in the next 24 months following the ruling.

Additionally, Pirates will have to pay 50% of the Disciplinary hearing costs and remaining R100 000. The Buccaneers have been given a week appeal the ruling.
