Mamelodi Sundowns leaving no stone unturned in Pyramids analysis

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Divine Lunga says their biggest task against Pyramids in the second leg of the CAF Champions League final is to find ways to break them down.

There’s a consensus inside the dressing room that the Egyptians were solid in defense and stifled the Downs attackers last weekend, but at the same time, they were aggressive when going forward.

Pyramids coach Krunoslav Jurcic promised to play the same way – if not better – at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday.

Lunga told SABC Sport in Cairo they’d work to counter this approach.

"During our analysis, we realised that it's not going to be an easy game because Pyramids are really aggressive in a lot of different areas.

"I think we managed to create moments, but we were unable to capatilise on some of these moments," said the flying fullback.

Sundowns talisman Lucas Ribiero shared similar sentiments to Lunga, adding that Pyramids were just as determined as The Brazilians.

"Every Champions League is difficult, but the Champions League final is something else. So, the team is preparing as normal, and we are ready for Sunday.

"Pyramids did surprise us last week by playing slightly higher, usually when teams play against Sundowns, they defend a lot deeper with a low block," explained Ribeiro Costa.

Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele is the obvious threat upfront, and it is no surprise that Lunga also singled him out and insisted they’d have to defend better to avoid conceding as late as they did in the 1-1 draw at Loftus Stadium.

Despite Sundowns needing to outscore Pyramids in the return match, Lunga revealed there’s a positive mindset ahead of Sunday that this generation of players can emulate the class of 2016.
