Lack of composure cost Kaizer Chiefs in Soweto Derby says Cavin Johnson

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has argued a lack of composure cost his side a possible maximum points in the Soweto Derby.

It was their rivals Orlando Pirates who instead moved up the DStv Premiership table and claimed the bragging rights via a narrow 1-0 goal scored by striker Evidence Makgopa early in the first half.

Amakhosi produced a dominant display after the break, but Johnson says they did not do enough to trouble the Buccaneers.

"I thought we had a penalty disallowed and then I hit the post with Castillo [Edson] but at the same time, the team is playing a lot better than I expected them to play today [Saturday]. There were moments when I thought, if Chiefs had the calmness that I think comes with the brand of Kaizer Chiefs in the last third, maybe we could have ended up going home with a draw or even because it's a home game, going home with a win," Johnson said.

In his overall assessment, Johnson said both sides played in patches and perhaps none of the two teams were superior throughout.

And that’s an element he wants to change at Chiefs.

"I'm happy and football is a game of moments and those are the little things that you have your analysts and your technicians outside of you who take note of that and we gotta work on it. So, yes some of them I'm not happy with. So, we need to up that part of our game," the coach explained.

Pressed on what style of play he wants to impose at Naturena, the man who replaced Molefi Ntseki last month did not give too much away.

"Look, I don't think football is played with systems. I'd like to play 9-1 one day and then you can ask what system am I playing. It's about the players’ energy levels that help them to support a number 10 or a number 9 or wingers, how they go up and down, how they support fullbacks and for me, that's how you play football."
