JVW look to maintain good form against UWC in HWBSL clash

JVW coach Janine van Wyk says they expect a tough away contest against the University of the Western Cape in the Hollywoodbets Super League this afternoon.

The Bedfordview outfit will look to maintain their good form - coming into this fixture on the back of a four match winning streak.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Van Wyk says even though the game will be competitive, she believes the team will execute the game plan with confidence.

“We know UWC is a strong side, especially on their home ground. They play with intensity and are always up for a challenge. But we’ve prepared well this week, and the team is motivated to keep building on our momentum. I expect a tight, competitive game, and our goal is to execute our game plan with confidence and discipline,” said Van Wyk.

Van Wyk in her first stint as JVW head coach has managed to lead the team to second place on the log behind the defending champions Mamelodi Sundown, in the league’s first quarter.

This after securing five convincing wins in eight matches.

She reflects on the first round of their 2025 campaign as head coach.

“It’s been a positive start. We’ve picked up good results, but more importantly, we’ve grown as a unit. The players are beginning to understand their roles more clearly, and we’re starting to see more consistency in our performances. There’s always room to improve, but overall, I’m pleased with how we’ve navigated the first round,” added Van Wyk.

Van Wyk says they don’t want to read too much into the team’s success in the early stages of the league but want to remain consistent when it comes to collecting maximum points going forward.

“We’re aware of where we are, but we’re not getting carried away. It’s a long season, and anything can happen. For now, the focus is on consistency and improving every week. If we keep doing the right things, we’ll put ourselves in a strong position when it really counts. The title talk can wait, we’ve still got a lot of work to do,” she expressed.
