High-flying Sekhukhune United ready for Mamelodi Sundowns test

Sekhukhune United assistant coach MacDonald Makhubedu has welcomed tonight’s test against reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Babina Noko are yet lose a league game in 2024, while Sundowns remain the only team still unbeaten in the entire campaign so far.

Makhubedu believes their encounter at Loftus Stadium promises sparks.

"It's gonna be a very difficult game, a very good side, who are also doing well in the league and we have been working very, very hard. Both teams are on form, we are both in the top four. It's not gonna be an easy game for us and them," Makhubedu said.

Makhubedu suggested that, on paper at least, the two sides were equally matched.

"There will be too much talent on the pitch, you know they have quality and we have quality. So, Sundowns is a well coached team, same as us so it will be a very good battle. Whoever brings a good attitude, good work rate, will get three points," he added.

With expected changes in the Sundowns line-up because of their congested schedule in both the domestic and continental league, this may be the best chance for Sekhukhune to take advantage.

Makhubedu says they can’t settle for less.

"We would like to get three points against a quality side like Sundowns and also I think them also, they would like to have three points. So, this is not the time to drop points for all the 16 teams and we have been doing well in our last eight games."

According to Makhubedu, their target is strengthening their position in the Top 8, but considering their form as well as being in fourth place it is possible Babina Noko want to aim a little higher than that.

"We want to finish in a good position and consolidate our top 8 spot. I think we will give our best, make everyone associated with our club happy and good luck to Sekhukhune United."
