Papi Zothwane cautious ahead of Carling Knockout clash with Richards Bay

Sekhukhune United coach Papi Zothwane believes former club Richards Bay could spring a surprise when the sides meet in the Carling Knockout last 16, following the appointment of Bulgarian coach Dimitar Pantev.

Pantev is hoping to take his place on the bench next weekend after missing Tuesday’s 4-1 Betway Premiership defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns due to delays in securing his work permit.

Zothwane believes The Natal Rich Boys could remain an unknown entity under their new mentor, adding an element of unpredictability to the cup tie.

"It will be a very difficult fixture considering who we are up against and that I was also a former coach of the club. They've got a new coach that side with a different philosophy, and maybe their approach in the cup will be completely different to what we've been seeing from them in the league."

Sekhukhune did secure a home draw, which Zothwane insisted is a big advantage given their schedule has seen them travel quite a bit so far this season.

The former Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder also vowed to use his experience in winning silverware to push Babina Noko even further.

"My experience has to rub off on the technical team and all the players because it's important for me to share memories of going all the way to the final and winning it against one of the biggest teams in Africa. We just have to win one game at a time, and if we do that anything is possible."

Zothwane stepped in after Cedric Kaze only lasted seven games in charge of Sekhukhune, but the targets have not changed.
