Ellis to use HWBSL Amplified as WAFCON selection platform

Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis says she will closely monitor the Hollywoodbets Super League Amplified to assess players’ consistency and track their recovery from injuries as part of preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The South African women’s national team recently returned from an Asian tour, where they faced Japan in two international friendly matches in Osaka.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Ellis says the team’s objective is to re-establish its dominance on the African continent and to ensure that players maintain high performance levels ahead of the tournament.

"I'm looking forward to the next couple of week's worth of league matches, just to monitor the players. We've been working with a group of players before the league started, but this gives us an opportunity to look at a few other players or players that have overcome injury and would've missed the WAFCON had it happened in March."

Ellis explained that a player’s mindset and attitude will also play a significant role in determining whether they will earn a place in the final WAFCON squad or not.

The 63-year-old added that the selection process remains open, with the technical team focused on assembling the strongest and most balanced squad possible for the continental showpiece.
