Kaizer Chiefs eye second spot ahead of Chippa clash

Kaizer Chiefs boss Arthur Zwane remains determined to secure second place in the Premiership as his charges prepare for Chippa United.

Their hopes of finishing in the top two were dashed with a 1-0 loss to Sekhukhune United and a 1-1 draw with Marumo Gallants.

They now sit in fourth place, five and six points behind Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United respectively.

Nonetheless, Zwane sees a glimmer of hope as the pressure mounts for teams vying for top-eight finishes or trying to avoid relegation.

"I'm one person who doesn't give up too easily. This is football, and anything can happen at any given time," he said.

"We dropped points and, yes, I'm disappointed and I know we could have done better (against Sekhukhune).

"It's one of those things where you never know what's going to happen, because everyone's fighting to be in the top eight or avoid relegation, and we're also fighting to be in a better position. There are no easy games at this time of the season."

On Thursday, Chiefs will play Chippa United, who are currently struggling to avoid relegation.

Chippa, who have recently appointed Lehlohonolo Seema as their fifth manager this season, are currently two points adrift of Swallows in 15th place and will be looking to bounce back from a 3-1 loss to Marumo Gallants in Polokwane.

"Coach Seema has not changed anything as far as how we train is concerned, but we feel that new energy," defender Matome Mathiane said.

"Everyone is excited and raring to go. He's been telling us that we can do it and we also believe that we can do it."
