Chiefs eye redemption against Sundowns after the Bloemfontein shocker

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze says they have no choice but to rise to the occasion in their next game against Betway Premiership log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, following their 2-0 loss to Siwelele FC at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein last night.

Two early goals from Tebogo Potsane and youngster, Siphesihle Jeza saw Chiefs suffer their fifth defeat of the season in the league, a result that brings AmaZulu back into the equation for a top three finish. Kaze says they now have no choice but to go to the Sundowns game with a winning mentality.

"We still have four games, and as we said before, we want to finish as high as we can. The good thing is ahead of us; our next game is a big one, and we are going to do everything to show our character," said Kaze.

"It's very good that it is a big game that's coming up for us to put ourselves in the right mindset to get into that game."

After a good run of five wins in a row, Chiefs are now winless in their last three games, and Kaze has highlighted their defensive frailties in a game he feels they never pitched up for.

The next three matches for Chiefs are very tough, after Sundowns next Wednesday, they travel to Polokwane for a meeting with Sekhukhune United next weekend, and then have AmaZulu on the 16th of next month. Kaze admits that their remote hopes of finishing second are dented after this loss.

Asked if an element of complacency had crept in, after going seven games without a loss, Kaze didn’t want to put any excuse, admitting that it was an off night for them and avoided using the Soweto Derby this past weekend, as an excuse.

Kaze has also explained the absence of two players, who have been key in their past few matches, Siphesihle Ndlovu, who is injured, and Bradley Cross, who was rested for this game. The Burundian national team technical adviser says maybe they should’ve made more changes.
