We played in mud not a football pitch – Miguel Cardoso

The Portuguese mentor had already expressed concern after their Betway Premiership clash was moved from Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Monday night due to its unavailability.

Speaking after Sundowns grabbed a late equaliser, Cardoso launched another salvo at the decision to play in KuGompo City, questioning whether the venue was suitable for a topflight football match.

"People have to really think about the purpose, the intention, and the direction they want South African football to take. There's a country in Africa that is completely detaching from the rest of the continent, and that is Morocco. Conditions have been created that side for players to perform at a very high level, and that is the direction football has to take in South Africa. 

"There is something behind the policy that needs to be studied to see the level of failure. I know in other countries this will not be allowed. This is not a football pitch because it is so muddy, it's better for wrestling."

Cardoso added that there was also quite a lot of physicality from Chippa.

Cardoso was also then asked about the arrival of Bafana Bafana right back Thabang Matuludi last week. 

"A team that plays a lot needs a deep squad so that we can play every three days because freshness is important. Matuludi provides us with some answers."
