Cedric Kaze points to tough pitch after Chiefs secure priceless three points in Bloem

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze says last night’s 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants was secured under extremely challenging conditions, with the poor state of the pitch at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium a major factor in the contest.

Amakhosi registered their eighth Betway Premiership win of the season thanks to a moment of brilliance from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) international Glody Lilepo.

While Chiefs collected the maximum points, the pitch condition was something Kaze couldn’t ignore, as it was everyone’s talking point during and after the game.

"It's a big win on a very difficult field but we didn't want to complain about the field or to feel sorry for ourselves, we are a big team, we need to play in every condition that we find ourselves in,” Kaze said.

“I would say that it's a big win and what I would say today, I'm not quite sure that there are a lot of teams that would win on that field."

The victory has significant implications at the top of the table, as second-placed Chiefs have now closed the gap on the defending champions and log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to just two points after 15 matches. Chiefs finished last season with only 32 points from 28 matches, and despite this huge improvement ---Kaze is not getting carried away.

"We went game by game last season. At the end of the season we were at 32 points after 30 games, today we are 15 games with 30 points, I feel it's a big improvement but as well we feel that we still have a big room for improvement,” the coach added.

“We're gonna go there and compete in every game, now our focus is gonna shift to our CAF Confederation game on Sunday against Zesco and then try to make the best out of that game."
