Alex Lafitte left frustrated as Marumo Gallants go down to Kaizer Chiefs

Marumo Gallants coach Alexandre Lafitte was left frustrated by his team’s below par performance, as they lost 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs at the Dr Rantlai Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.

This was Gallants’ second Betway Premiership loss for 2026, and continued their winless run to six matches stretching back to November.

Lafitte lamented his side’s lack of killer instinct upfront and demanded that they play better as a collective.

"Yes, frustration because I think we had a perfect game but the problem is, when you in a situation where you have to score but after it's not a problem if you don't concede a goal,” Lafitte said.

“Today we conceded a goal and I don't know if you want to shoot and it's a bit frustrating because we develop good football and good situations to score but you see the difference between our players and other players, we are very different.

“So, it's important to be perfect collectively but at the moment it's important if you want to win or lose, it's important to score and not concede a goal."

The Frenchman says they played with the required energy in the first half, but dropped the intensity after the break.

He believes this is why Chiefs ended up finding the opportunity to score the game’s only goal.

"You know sometimes football will be against you because you don't have the same energy for that and I know it's difficult but you need to have the same intensity. You see when you start the second half, the players decrease intensity and for that you create an opportunity for the opponent to score,” the coach explained.

“I'm sure if you score in the first half the game is different but if you don't score, you have to have the same energy and not want to concede."
