AmaZulu win but Arthur Zwane rues sluggish display

Usuthu edged Gallants 1-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium, with Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya finding the back of the net to give the hosts the lead.

Despite collecting another three points, Zwane was left frustrated by the lack of urgency in his side’s performance. He believes AmaZulu had opportunities to put the game beyond Gallants reach, but failed to make the most of them.

"We are happy because we managed to grab maximum points, but performance wise I'm not happy. I know we could've done much better in the game, but that's football. Sometimes you will have bad days at the office, and sometimes you will still manage to win."

AmaZulu did enough to protect their advantage and put Gallants under pressure at different stages of the contest. However, Zwane admits the narrow lead left his side vulnerable, particularly because they did not take complete control of the match.

The coach says they needed to impose themselves more and make better use of the chances that come their way.

Ngwenya’s strike proved decisive as AmaZulu registered their fourth league victory of the campaign, moving them into third place on the Betway Premiership table.

Their attention now turns to a trip to Polokwane City on the 19th of September, with Zwane demanding a stronger showing when they face Rise and Shine away from home.

With the domestic transfer window set to close on the 22nd of September, Zwane has left the door open for AmaZulu to strengthen their squad before the deadline.
