The 48-year-old addressed a packed room of journalists for the first time this week, ahead of Gomora’s Nedbank Cup opening round clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.¨
Makhanya, also a former junior international, reflected briefly on his coaching journey to date.
"The contribution to the game has been massive, and I have learned a lot over the years as a coach. Being able to transfer that knowledge as a player, but it has also been crucial to go through the coaching education and not just coach from playing experience. As much as it has value it has limitations interms of technical work with the players, identifying talent, and developing that talent to be effective," said Makhanya
Makhanya outlined the depth of his coaching education and the lessons he has gathered along the way.
“I’ve had the opportunity, through Bidvest Wits, to further my coaching qualifications. I've had to do my CAF A license and be part of the programme Wits had with the Dutch Federation. This allowed me to travel to the Netherlands and see how they do things there."
