Adnan Beganovic plots safer path past Milford in Nedbank Cup tie

TS Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic has warned that a penalty shootout would represent a worst-case scenario in their Nedbank Cup semifinal against Milford FC on Sunday.

The KwaZulu-Natal side already pushed Sekhukhune United beyond 120 minutes in the previous round and suffered heartbreak in the shootout, after twice surrendering their lead in open play.

Beganovic says Galaxy have studied that encounter closely and are determined to avoid a similar outcome.

"You know how we have enough time to prepare for our next game, it will be tough but we also need to be ready for scenario A, B and C," said Beganovic.

"We also need to have a game plan for extra time, and a game plan for penalties, and we will prepare our team for everything – we can't allow something to happen that we didn't prepare for because we are a professional club and we do everything properly."

The coach argues that Galaxy’s cup run has been impressive with all three wins against Marumo Gallants, Mamelodi Sundowns and Jacksa Spears coming inside 90 minutes.

"It's important how we've played all our three Nedbank Cup games since the beginning – Marumo Gallants, Mamelodi Sundowns and the third game against Jacksa Spears," he added.

"We scored goals and we protected our goals properly, and I think we showed our quality and ability, that we can play good games, especially in the cup.

"And when we play for a result, obviously in the cup, we need to play and manage everything properly."
