Springbok and Stormers loose forward Evan Roos has been slammed for his actions that resulted in a yellow card against Benetton in the URC on Friday.
Roos was sent to the sin bin in just his second game back from injury and his first start.
The incident occurred in the 25th minute of the match, with the Stormers forming a maul from a lineout inside the Benetton 22.
Benetton managed to stop the Stormers' drive, with flanker Manuel Zuliani judged to have come through the middle to apply pressure on hooker JJ Kotze.
The Stormers front-rower managed to get the ball out for his side as Zuliani grappled him before Roos drove the flanker off his teammate.
However, in doing so, Roos also drove the flanker's head into the turf. Zuliani remained on the floor after the incident, and play was stopped before referee Hollie Davidson was notified of the incident by her TMO.
Upon review, Davidson judged that it was an 'unnecessary' action from Roos, adding that she did not feel it was a high level of danger before issuing the yellow card.
Commentator Matthew Pearce also noted that it was 'completely unnecessary' from Roos, and many on Twitter agreed.
