Joe Root set to return for season 5 of SA20, Mitch Marsh set for tournament debut

England trio Sam Curran, Will Jacks and Phil Salt are some of the other international stars that will feature in the competition as the six franchises locked in their retained and pre-signed players.

There will be an auction that will take place on 7 October, where only 19 slots are still to be filled across four franchises with Paarl Royals and Durban's Super Giants submitting their full 19-man rosters.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

The defending champions have pre-signed ICC T20 World Cup winner Marsh, where he will most likely form and exciting opening partnership with Proteas international Quinton de Kock.

Sunrisers have kept the core of the squad that won the franchises third SA20 trophy last season with only two spaces to be filled in the mini-auction.

Salt will return for another stint with the Capitals after representing the franchise in the first two editions of the competition.

The Capitals will have five sports to fill at the auction as Proteas internationals Dewald Brevis, Lungi Ngidi and Keshav Maharaj retain their places in the squad.

MI Cape Town

England allrounder Will Jacks has been signed for the Newlands-based franchise and will join a squad that once again includes West Indian Nicholas Pooran and Proteas superstar Kagiso Rabada.

MI Cape Town will be looking for the SA20's all-time leading run-scorer Ryan Rickelton to continue his fine displays as they still need to sign six players to fill their 19-man roster.

Joburg Super Kings

West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has moved to Wanderers ahead of the upcoming season, and will team up England's James Vince.

Dian Forrester was retained after being the tournament's breakout star in season 4, with the Super Kings still needing to add seven players to their roster after letting go of former Proteas internationals Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir.

Durban's Super Giants

The Kingsmead-based team are one of two franchises that have locked in their full 19-man squad and will be bolstered by England allrounder Sam Curran, who spent the first two editions with MI Cape Town.

Proteas captain Aiden Markram, former England skipper Jos Buttler, West Indies mystery spinner Sunil Narine and the explosive Heinrich Klaasen will once again return for the Super Giants.

The newly appointed England Test captain Root will return for a second spell, having starred for the Royals in season 3.

The Paarl-based team submitted their full 19-man list with Zimbabwe star Sikandar Raza returning alongside Proteas veteran David Miller and starlet Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
