ASA president James Moloi will face strong opposition from his deputy Shireen Noble, along with Aleck Skhosana, John Mathane, and Harold Adams.
The final list of candidates was officially released by the auditors today.
This marks the first time in ASA's history that five individuals are competing for the top leadership position in South African athletics.
Six candidates — Shireen Noble, John Mathane, Karabo Mabilo, Sticks Stiglingh, and Harold Adams — are officially in the running for the deputy president position.
After months of speculation and behind-the-scenes manoeuvring, the full list of contenders and the positions they’re contesting in the highly anticipated ASA elections at the end of the month has finally been confirmed.
Long-distance runner Glendwin Mzazi, husband of fellow athlete Lebo Phalula, is vying for a position on the Athletes Commission.
He faces competition from former 400m track star Tsholofelo Thipe, ex-Comrades Marathon champion Ludwick Mamabolo, current ASA Athletes Chairperson Hendrick Mokhanyetsi, and 2017 Spar Ladies Grand Prix winner and current vice-chairperson of the commission, Kesa Molotsane.
Enock Skosana is locked in a two-horse race with Mike Mbambani for the position of Road Running Chairperson, while Jakes
Jacobs is up against tough competition for the Cross-Country Chairperson role, with Rene Coetzee, Norma Nonkonyana, and Mmatli Jantjie Theletsane all in the running.
Meanwhile, current Track and Field Chairperson Jean Verster is facing a strong challenge from Pieter Lourens in a head-to-head contest.
