Wimbledon TV viewing figures boast good numbers for 2025 Grand Slam

Despite the retirement of tennis legends such as Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal, Wimbledon viewing figures for American TV suggest interest is booming.

Filling the void left by the all-time greats of tennis as they all reached the end of their sporting careers at a similar time was always going to be a problem that could derail the appeal of tennis to an audience beyond core fans of the sport.

Yet the emergence of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as the new leaders of the men's game and the interesting stories in a women's game led by compelling characters like Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Emma Raducanu drove a surge in viewing figures in America for this year's Wimbledon extravaganza.

The men's singles final between Sinner and Alcaraz averaged 2.9 million viewers, which represented a 31% increase on the Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic final from a year before

The final averaged peaked at the end of the match with four million viewers, making it the most-viewed Gentlemen's Championship in six years.

The match only (excluding trophy ceremony and post-match analysis) averaged 3.20 million viewers, up 26% compared to last year's men's final.

The Ladies' final between Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova averaged 1.3 million viewers, with the match excluding the trophy ceremony averaging 1.92 million viewers, up 18 per-cent on last year's final.

It wasn't just the finals that performed well for ESPN, as the semi-finals averaged 1.1 million viewers, up 33 per-cent in 2024.

The men's semi-finals attracted the highest viewing figures in six years, as the match between Alcaraz and US No 1 Taylor Fritz and Sinner's victory over Novak Djokovic pulling in an average viewership of 1.31 million, an increase of 34 per-cent compared to 2024.

Overall, this year's Wimbledon was the most-watched edition of the tournament of the past six years, with that previous high in 2019 notable as it was a year that saw Federer and Williams competing in the finals.

The positive viewing figures in America for Wimbledon were replicated on the BBC in England, with a record-breaking 69.3 million digital video views for the BBC over the fortnight.

The men's singles final between rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner had a peak TV and online audience of 8.8 million, with nearly all - 8.3 million - watching on BBC One.

In the women's final, 4.1 million tuned into BBC television to watch Swiatek win her first Wimbledon title with a 6-0 6-0 win over Anisimova.

The BBC also recorded impressive viewing figures for Emma Raducanu's exciting third round match against world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka, attracting a peak TV audience of five million - the third-highest peak for a non-final match in four years behind only her own fourth-round clash with Lulu Sun last year and Andy Murray's match against John Isner in 2022.
