Serena and Venus Williams to reunite for doubles return at Cincinnati Open

The sisters had been due to play doubles together at Wimbledon in July, but those plans were scuppered when Serena suffered a knee injury during her singles comeback against Australia's Maya Joint.

The Cincinnati Open, a WTA 1000 event being held in Ohio from 11 to 23 August, will mark the first time Serena and Venus have partnered up in a competitive match since the 2022 US Open.

The tournament could also provide Serena with another opportunity to build towards a return to the US Open later this month.

The 44-year-old's appearance at Wimbledon was her first Grand Slam outing since her third-round defeat at Flushing Meadows in 2022. She had been away from the sport for several years before making her singles comeback this summer.

Serena remains one Grand Slam singles title short of the all-time record of 24, which she shares with Margaret Court and Novak Djokovic.

The Williams sisters have enjoyed extraordinary success as a doubles partnership, winning 14 Grand Slam titles and three Olympic gold medals together.

Venus, 46, will also compete in the singles draw in Cincinnati after receiving a wildcard for the WTA 1000 tournament.
