Netball South Africa confirms three test-match series against Jamaica

Netball South Africa (NSA) President Cecilia Molokwane has officially announced to SABC Sport that the national federation has agreed to participate in a three-test match series against Jamaica.

The Proteas last faced Jamaica in Kingston amid the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Currently, Jamaica holds the fourth position in the World rankings, with the Proteas following closely in fifth place.

Molokwane shared with the national broadcaster that coordinating the schedule was a challenging task due to Jamaica’s busy agenda.

The Proteas recently concluded tours against the first and third-ranked teams, Australia and England, resulting in series losses for both encounters.

Despite these setbacks, Molokwane maintains the perspective that the Proteas should challenge a team positioned higher than them in the World rankings, aspiring to surpass them and secure a more elevated standing.

“I can confirm to SABC Sport that we’ve recently inked a new contract with the Jamaican netball federation for a three test-match series in Jamaica. It’s crucial for us to compete against a nation ranked higher than ours. Although we faced Jamaica during the challenging times of COVID-19, we feel the need to provide them with a formidable test. In my perspective, playing against Jamaica holds greater significance than facing Australia, New Zealand, and England. This is primarily because Jamaica holds a higher position than us in the World rankings, and our strategic goal is to interchange positions with them.  Triumphing over a team close boosts confidence, setting the stage for challenging encounters with others,” stated Molokwane.

Molokwane opted not to disclose extensive details regarding the upcoming tour and the Proteas ’program for 2024. She emphasized her intention to convene a press conference where she would unveil the complete fixture schedule, including dates, venues, and times.

“I’ll be presenting the comprehensive details during an official press conference. Rest assured, we’re geared up for the exciting challenge against Jamaica. The remainder of the program will be disclosed to the public during the press conference. We’re taking a break to provide the players and everyone involved with an opportunity to rest,” Molokwane affirmed.
