Mirra Andreeva crowned Russian Tennis Player of the Year

Eighteen-year-old Mirra Andreeva has been named Russian Tennis Player of the Year for 2025, capping a remarkable season for the young star.

The awards ceremony, held in Moscow, saw Andreeva absent, with team member Artem Derepasko collecting the accolade on her behalf.

"Thank you very much for choosing me as Tennis Player of the Year. It's a pleasure to receive this award, because a lot of hard work has gone into it," said Andreeva, according to RIA Novosti Sport.

"This prize is a huge bonus for me. I would have loved to be there in person, but a very important person will receive the award on my behalf."

Andreeva made a sensational start to the year, claiming back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells just before her 18th birthday. Her victory in Dubai propelled her into the WTA top-10, making her the youngest player to debut at that level since Nicola Vaidisova in 2007.

By Wimbledon, she had reached a career-high ranking of world No. 5, establishing herself as the highest-ranked Russian female player of the year.

Despite a strong beginning, the latter half of 2025 proved more challenging. Andreeva narrowly missed qualifying for the WTA Finals after Elena Rybakina secured the final spot in Riyadh, reflecting a slight dip in form in the closing months of the season.

Nevertheless, she maintained a year-end ranking of No. 9, ensuring her position among the sport's elite.

Andreeva's breakthrough season has drawn attention not only for her early successes but also for her resilience in sustaining top-level performance across a demanding calendar.

With national recognition now added to her achievements, the Russian teenager appears poised for further impact on the WTA Tour in 2026.
