He succeeds former Triathlon South Africa president Debbie Alexander.
The 40-year-old now holds dual leadership roles, having been re-elected as Chairperson of the SASCOC Athletes’ Commission last week.
Mokoena says his years of experience have prepared him well for the responsibilities ahead, and he is passionate about contributing to the advisory committee in his new role.
"I'm wearing two hats from now on, I'm also looking forward to taking this role of chairperson of the High-Performance Commission to the next level," said Mokoena excitedly.
Although the leadership role at SASCOC is new for the South African athletics legend, he sees it as a natural progression, believing that high performance has always been a way of life. He is ready to serve the athletes and is committed to helping them elevate their performance levels.
The retired long jump star is committed to helping athletes reach their full potential by making the most out of the resources at their disposal.
"I will be looking deeply into what actually makes an athlete perform at the highest level, and what high performance entails exactly."
Although the former Commonwealth Games gold medallist recognises that funding is crucial for athlete development, he believes there are several other ways to help athletes reach the next level and maintain consistent performance at the highest level.
"Yes, money is very important; athletes need money for certain resources, but we also have to look much deeper than that," he said without going into too much detail.
