Hollywood AC has increasingly been labelled a “buying club” by critics following the recruitment of some of South Africa’s biggest road-running names.
However, speaking to SABC Sport, Glossop insists the club’s primary focus remains long-term development rather than short-term wins.
“We didn’t bring them here only for what they can do on the road. They are here to help us develop and coach young athletes. Development is the key focus for this club,” said Glossop.
“We will support them and help them perform at their best. We brought them in for a reason, and it’s not only about the wins, despite what people might think.
"We are not a buying club. The shift to development is what’s important. We want to grow young runners for the future and also grow coaches."
Dijana and Mothibi, who were recently signed, share multiple Comrades victories between them and are now expected to spearhead the club’s male challenge at the iconic ultra-marathon, alongside Steyn as the leading female challenger.
“It’s been fantastic chatting to these two incredible gentlemen. They are humble, they care about developing others, and they bring not just their Comrades-winning experience but also the ability to grow future champions," Glossop added.
"Our goal is not just to be on the podium this year, but consistently for the next five to 10 years. They are working with their own squads, and their coaching is about more than skills.
"It’s about values, humility and building the youth. We didn’t unveil them just to win races, but to help develop young runners."
