The world’s most beautiful marathon will see the 21.1km half-marathon taking place on Saturday, 3 April, followed by the 56km Ultra Marathon on Sunday, 4 April.
The revised schedule marks an important change, with the half-marathon moving to the day before the ultra-marathon.
The 2026 edition produced memorable performances, with Arthur Jantjies emerging as the surprise winner of the ultra-marathon in 3:09:25 in only his second appearance at the race.
South African long-distance star Gerda Steyn continued her dominance by claiming a record-extending seventh title in 3:27:43, earning R380,000 for her victory.
Two Oceans Marathon NPC chairperson Chris Goldschmidt said the organisers are excited about the new event format.
"We are excited to unveil a revitalised event week format for 2027 that will transform the Two Oceans Marathon powered by BYD into an even bigger celebration of running, community and camaraderie from 31 March to 4 April. This enhanced schedule gives each event its own moment to shine, enriches the experience for runners and supporters alike, and creates a memorable build-up to the ultimate highlight of the week."
Goldschmidt said the changes will modernise the event while preserving the traditions that have made the race famous around the world.
"While this marks an exciting evolution for the event, we remain firmly committed to preserving the spirit, traditions and rich legacy that have earned the marathon its reputation as the world's most beautiful marathon."
He also confirmed that the University of Cape Town campus will remain the home of the race in both 2027 and 2028.
There was more good news for runners, with organisers announcing a significant increase in race capacity.
Event director Wade Bromfield said the expansion will allow many more athletes to experience the prestigious event.
"The 2027 edition represents a major milestone for the event, with increased capacity allowing even more runners to be part of this iconic experience. The half-marathon will grow from 17,000 to 21,000 participants, while the ultra-marathon will increase from 14,000 to 21,000 participants, opening the door for more runners to enter the race."
