Orlando Pirates transition is evident, says Grant Kekana

As the DStv Premiership returns with Mamelodi Sundowns hosting Orlando Pirates on Friday afternoon, defender Grant Kekana has highlighted the Buccaneers’ strengths.

This was a one-sided fixture in years gone by, but the Downs centre-back believes Pirates are going through a positive transition after recently knocking them out of the MTN8 and going all the way to lift the trophy.

The two sides have already met three times this season – twice in the MTN8 semi-finals and the Carling Black Label Cup final, in which Sundowns thrashed Pirates 4-0 on a day both teams played two matches in the one-day event at FNB Stadium.

Kekana highlights that the clash is always of a high standard.

"I think we're more focussed on ourselves, not too worried about anything else outside. But we motivate each other to always give our best because, even now, everyone is fighting for their place," said Kekana ahead of tomorrow's clash at Loftus Versfeld.

"Obviously, you know, as the years go, teams also improve, so I think Pirates have been on a transition where they've been getting a lot more quality players.

"They are a lot more motivated now, so it's always a tough fixture but also an entertaining one. From our side, we always love playing these games, and it's also good for the fans because we know the rivalry.

"But, ja, I maintain that I think we'll be well prepared, it's going to be tough. You can never tell how the game's going to every time we play Pirates. They bring their A-game and we bring our A-game."

The match will be broadcast LIVE on SABC 1 and SABC Radio Stations, with build-up set to start at 15:00.
