Abdeslam Ouaddou fumes at Pirates’ showboating despite CAF victory

With The Buccaneers 3-1 ahead in their CAF Champions League preliminary-round second leg against La Cure Waves at Orlando Amstel Arena, the players began grandstanding to the delight of the crowd, but the anger of their coach.

Speaking after the game, Ouaddou said Pirates should have used their dominance more effectively, particularly by adding more goals.  

"The rhythm of our game dropped when we stopped being serious and started showboating, and we have to understand that if we want to be ambitious and win the CAF Champions League, then we need to realise that football is about going forward, creating chances and scoring goals. 

"We have the ambition to win the Champions League, but if we want to do that then we have to stop this because it doesn't help the team and it serves nobody accept the player's ego.

"All I want as a coach is goals, goals, goals, nothing else."

Ouaddou argued that the lack of killer instinct gave the impression Pirates, the reigning Betway Premiership champions, have no “ambition”. 

Ouaddou went as far as threatening to quit if showboating and grandstanding is more important to the Pirates players than being a ruthless team when the opposition is there for the taking. 

"If they want to continue with this then they must continue without me. I will never accept the showboating!"
