No requests for loan deals at Downs yet

Despite having six players who are yet to feature this season as well as several more who are clearly on the fringes, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has confirmed there have been no requests to leave.

The Brazilians are considered to boast an embarrassment of riches with luxury players both on the pitch and watching from the stands at any given point, hence Mokwena’s DStv Premiership counterparts have already declared them champions.

But he has suggested it’s not likely there will be a lot of players leaving Chloorkop during the January transfer window as things stand.

“In relation to transfers, nothing yet,” Mokwena explained.

Among the Downs players without any minutes so far this season are goalkeepers Denis Onyango, Reyaad Pieterse, Jody February, Kennedy Mweene as well as defenders Katlego Mohamme and Rivaldo Coetzee.

There are a few others who aren’t regulars, but have been used along the way since the start of the campaign in August, although it is expected that they will be needed when the CAF Champions League group stages resume next month.

Sundowns are drawn against Coton Sport from Cameroon, Egypt’s Al Ahly yet again as well as Al Hilal of Sudan and will now need to their squad depth to juggle their continental and domestic fixture list in the coming weeks.

“But no one has knocked on my door yet to say they want to leave – so the players are happy to be here and we are happy to have them here. And if that’s the status quo we continue to work and try to make sure that we are all happy at service for Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club because that’s what’s very important,” the coach concluded on the subject.
