Chiefs end Royal AM hoodoo in convincing fashion

Kaizer Chiefs arrested a three-match losing streak in the DStv Premiership with a 2-0 win over Royal AM at FNB Stadium on Sunday.

It is also Chiefs' first win over Royal AM in three attempts.

Chiefs suffered a blow early on as Reeve Frosler had to be replaced by Dillon Solomons because of injury.

Royal almost took the lead when Ricardo Nascimento headed over after a free-kick had been flicked onto the back post. Chiefs then worked the ball well around the area and Ashley du Preez fed Sifiso Hlanti, who found himself in an advanced position but put the shot over the bar.

Chiefs were the side dominating before lightning brought the game to a halt for 15 minutes.

After the resumption, Royal worked the ball up the left wing before a cross came into the box and Thikaziheaded it over narrowly wide of the left-hand post.

Keagan Dolly gave a warning of his powers when he weaved his way through the visitors' defence but his placed shot lacked power and Hugo Nyame claimed comfortably.

Chiefs were rewarded for their dominance when they took the lead through Hlanti. A beautiful free-kick was delivered from the right wing right onto the edge of the six-yard box and the defender rose highest and headed the ball into the back of the net.

Christian Saile Basomboli was brought on for his debut and almost made an instant impact when his point-blank header was saved by the reflexes of Nyame.

Ashley du Preez added the second for his first goal in over three months. Basomboli turned provider as his cross was tucked home by his strike partner as Chiefs came away with a satifying win.
