Shreyas Iyer admits PBKS need to rethink bowling tactics ahead of IPL playoffs

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has conceded that they need to rethink their bowling strategy if they are to succeed in the upcoming Indian Premier League playoffs.

There is no denying the Kings have an imposing batting lineup with the likes of Josh Inglis, Prabhsimran Singh and Iyer himself tearing up the competition.

However, they have a clear weakness which was shown up once again in their defeat to the Dehli Capitals on Saturday.

After setting an imposing total of 206 batting first, the Capitals were able to knock off the runs with just four wickets down.

Samir Rizvi hit a superb 58 not out off just 25 balls, supported by a lovely 44 from 27 balls by Karun Nair and, notably, not a single batter had a strike rate lower than 128 in the Capitals innings.

"I felt that it was a fantastic score, to be honest, on this wicket because it was helping the seamer," Iyer said after the game.

"There was some odd bounce, variable bounce, and, yeah, the ball wasn't coming at the same pace, so I felt that that was overpowering.

"We've got to go back to the drawing board and see where we went wrong and definitely come in with a strong set of plans so that we'll be able to execute pretty well in the next game.

"I think we weren't disciplined enough in terms of our execution. Once we read the wicket in the first innings, we had planned that we would be bowling hard lengths as much as possible. Right in the stumps. I think we went a bit overboard in terms of bowling bouncers and tried to take wickets. Couldn't execute that, but a great learning for the boys."
