Proteas Women’s Tazmin Brits pleased with match application in camp

Proteas Women batter Tazmin Brits gave a glowing review of their intra-squad game played on Friday, as preparations for the ICC Women’s World Cup intensify.

The 20-player squad assembled in Durban on Monday to polish up on their skills before leaving for Pakistan next week, and Brits was pleased with how the players applied the lessons from training in a match situation.

The squad will be cut down to 15 plus one reserve in the coming week.

"Yeah it was nice to see the girls actually try the things that we've been working on. A lot of times we try those things and when it comes to game day we actually reroute back to our old habits,” Brits said.

“So, it was nice, people getting out of their comfort zone, at the end of the day that's when growth happens, so it was good to see. I saw a few bowlers doing things that you never saw before and actually coming off and the same thing with the batters, so yeah, it's great to see it."

The match was played at the Chatsworth Oval, and Brits was also happy with how they adapted to a pitch they’re not all too familiar with.

The camp is being held in Durban for the exact purpose of getting used to conditions similar to those they’ll find in the sub-continent.

"We haven't played and not on the Chatsworth wicket so it was nice to actually see how people adapted. I think with me and Lau [Laura Wolvaardt] upfront, we quickly assessed and realised that it's more up and down and actually movement  on the wicket and that's where we felt we could climb into certain bowlers,” she added.

“Like you said with Kappie [Marizanne Kapp] and her century, she brought the runs from the 100 to us, so hopefully that can continue for her. I think she's very experienced as well which we also picked up with the shots that she was playing but just in general, I think a lot of people contributed in our team.

“It was nice to see it wasn't just a one hit wonder, it was a lot of people running very hard, playing certain shots and 20, 30s and 40s that were coming along the line. So, it was nice to see all the contributions."
