Proteas paceman Gerald Coetzee ruled out of second Test against India

Proteas fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the second Test against India at Newlands after developing pelvic inflammation during the first game of the series.

The 23-year-old paceman experienced discomfort in his pelvis, which got progressively worse while bowling on day three of the match in Centurion.

The Proteas have decided not to call up a replacement with fellow quick Lungi Ngidi already in the squad while spinner Keshav Maharaj could also be an option to return to the starting XI.

Captain Temba Bavuma will miss the Test at Newlands, starting on Wednesday, after suffering a hamstring strain on day one of the innings-and-32-run-victory in Centurion.

Tristan Stubbs is the reserve batter in the squad and could make his debut if selected while Zubayr Hamza has been added as batting cover.

Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad has already confirmed that Dean Elgar will lead the team in what will be his final Test before retiring.
