The 27-year-old was born in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, but previously played for the Durban Super Giants in the SA20 in the last two seasons. That’s until the two-time champions snapped him up for R6.1 million in September’s auction, and Breetzke is grateful for the opportunity.
"First of all, I'm really grateful that they showed faith in me to bring me back home. It's really special for me to be back, and the guys are excited to carry on the success of the team."
One of the things Breetzke is happy about regarding the move is the opportunity to play along side some of his close friends.
The 2022 and 2023 winners of the competition will be hoping the addition of the Proteas player will help them reclaim the title they lost to the MI Cape Town last year.
With the tournament getting underway on Boxing Day, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape get their ball rolling the very next day away against the Paarl Royals. Breetzke says it’s natural to be a bit anxious ahead of Saturday’s game as they hope to get off to a positive start.
"There will definitely be nerves, and for us, it's just about preparing for the conditions in Paarl for our first match. The nerves are natural, but we'll just have to deal with that and see where this season takes us."
