George Linde highlights efficiency in opening win over West Indies

Linde returned bowling figures of 3/25 to lead the Proteas to victory in the first T20 International against the West Indies in Paarl, taking a 1-0 lead in the three match series in the process.

Linde took the wickets of captain Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, and Jason Holder to take his tally to 31 wickets in 28 matches played in the shortest format of the game. Ironically, Linde conceded that he didn’t feel that he played too well, but says it’s all about finding a way to get the job done.

"To be honest, I didn't feel good with the ball, but I still tried to find a way to be effective for the team. I've learned through the years that you dont have to fight it if you feel like that on the day, it is what it is. You just try and find a way to be good for the team."

He went on to say they are playing exactly the right opponent just before a World Cup, given the Windies’ track record in the 20-over game. Linde believes the men from the Caribbean will be one of the favourites to win the title once the tournament starts in India and Sri-Lanka next month.

"It is a good tester ahead of the World Cup, especailly because they are always going to put you under pressure with bat or ball. I think they are one of the favourites to win the World Cup beacuse they're so dangerous and have very good players."

At the ripe old age of 34 Linde will be one of seven Proteas players making their debut at the ICC T20 World Cup, something he obviously is looking forward to. He declared that the main aim going to the sub-continent is to return home with the trophy.
