Aiden Markram: Proteas take loss and move on to next match

Proteas stand-in Test captain Aiden Markram says they will not be feeling sorry for themselves after losing the first Test match against Pakistan in Lahore.

South Africa were beaten by 93 runs after being bowled out for just 183 in the second innings, and trail the two-match series 1-0.

The skipper says they will not wallow in sorrow, having enjoyed a good run in the Test arena this year that culminated in lifting the World Test Championship mace in June.

"We had a good winning streak going and lost a game of cricket – I think that's how the game of cricket and world of sport works, so we can't win everything," said Markram.

"We had plans, we gave it our absolute all, and we were on the wrong side of [the result], so that can happen and you have to make peace with that.

"If a team is better than you over the three or four days then you doff your caps towards them, so I'm not looking too deep into it by all means, let bygones be bygones, as they say, and we look forward to that second Test match."

The 31-year-old refused to hide behind losing the toss, and says they should find ways to win the second match regardless of whether they bat first or second.

"We expect the conditions to be similar, and the toss is the toss, we can't control which way the coin will land, but I think it's important to win games even if you don't get the toss right," he added.

"I always laugh and say, we don't come to win the toss, we come to win the game, and we've got to find ways to do that.

"So we expected conditions to be like this, and we expect similar for the second Test, so it's on us now as a group to go back and find ways to be better and give ourselves a chance to win."
