Jordan Hermann hits record score as Proteas take ODI series lead in Namibia

Hermann hit exactly 150 from 126 balls to equal the record held by teammate Matthew Breetzke, who also hit the same score on his international 50-over debut against New Zealand in February last year.

Tony de Zorzi was also among runs, the number 3 hitting 72 as the Proteas powered to a total of 348-6, before Namibia were restricted to 162-8 after the home side's innings was reduced to 31 overs due to rain.

The left-handed Hermann lost his opening partner Connor Esterhuizen (10) in the seventh over with 27 runs on the board, but De Zorzi hit some much-needed form after a few low scores in the recently-concluded T20I tri-series.

Hermann and De Zorzi put on a second-wicket partnership of 190, mixing defence with controlled aggression, without taking any unnecessary risks until the stand was broken in the 35th over by spinner Gerhard Erasmus.

With a good platform at 217-2, Dewald Brevis played a breezy knock of 33 from 28 balls before he was caught on the square-leg boundary trying to pull seamer Ruben Trumpelmann (4-68) before Rubin Hermann was adjudged lbw for just 8.

Jason Smith and Corbin Bosch took the Proteas to the end with the latter striking three sixes and a four for a sparkling 39 not out off just 24 deliveries to take the visitors close to the 350-run mark.

Namibia made a steady start in the run-chase as Kwena Maphaka (2-32) struck twice to leave the home team 66-2 after 18 overs, before spinner Prenelan Subrayen got into the action with with two wickets of his own.

The first disruption for rain came in the 22nd over, and when the players returned it was only for a brief period before another delay reduced the game even further.

Eventually it was a 31-over contest with Namibia's adjusted target an unreasonable 262, and Subrayen cashed in grabbing a further two wickets to finish with figures of 4-29 in six overs.
