Proteas Test stars set to feature as South Africa's domestic season gets underway

Ahead of a busy home summer of international cricket, Proteas Test captain Temba Bavuma along with Wiaan Mulder and Ryan Rickelton will don the colours of the Johannesburg-based Lions that will take on Boland at the Wanderers.

David Bedingahm, Kyle Verreynne and Dane Paterson have been included in the Cobras squad for the contest at Newlands against the Warriors, who should have Tristan Stubbs available.

Bedingham comes into the home summer on the back of a scintillating season in English county cricket where he was representing Durham, the 32-year-old struck 1029 runs in 16 innings at an average of more than 73, that included five centuries.

Cobras captain Daniel Smith, who walked away with the majority of the trophies at the provincial union's awards ceremony on Monday, is eager to soak in as much knowledge as possible from his three international teammates.

"They're good human beings at the end of the day and they're always there to support you and I'm really thankful for that," Smith said.

"I always say that we've got the best senior players in the country. Just the way that they treat the younger players and the way that they feed off the energy and give valuable experiences.

"As much as you say they're so talented, but the energy that the senior boys give off to them and the confidence that they give off to them is massive."

The Titans will have pace duo Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen as well as spinner Simon Harmer in their line-up as the Dolphins, including skipper Keshav Maharaj, visit Centurion.
