South Africa and Nigeria share one of the fiercest rivalries on the African continent. There’s been a lot of talk between the countries coming into this game. Bafana being six points clear of the Super Eagles in Group C of the FIFA 2026 makes this game even more interesting.
Williams feels that this could be the game, where they get one over the Super Eagles.
"We haven't beaten Nigeria in a very long time, and yes, we have had positive results like drawing with them away from home in Nigeria, which proves that we are growing as a team.
"We are getting closer and closer to beating them. We saw that in the AFCON semi-final and in the last qualifier, so hopefully tomorrow we can go a step further."
For that to happen, they need to win and also for Benin to drop points against Lesotho in Abidjan.
But Broos has reminded his troops that Nigeria also still has a slight chance, and they shouldn't be underestimated.
"We have a big opportunity tonight. We all know that if we win the game, we have so to say qualified for the World Cup.
"We are also playing against a very good opponent, and just because they are six points behind us, we cannot afford to think that Nigeria is not a good team anymore. They have quality players that play abroad, but we don't have fear to play this game."
Bafana have not reached the World Cup finals via qualification in 23 years. Their only loss so far was to Rwanda in the seven matches of these qualifiers, and the Belgian-born mentor says they have really pushed in this qualification campaign.
There have been a lot of questions about Nigeria’s travelling schedule, after they landed in Bloemfontein last night, having played against Rwanda on Saturday. Broos doesn’t want to read too much into how this could affect their opponents...
