Maboe says Mosimane’s PSL knowledge can drive Bafana’s success

Maboe, who was signed by Mosimane at Mamelodi Sundowns from Maritzburg United (now Durban City), was transformed into the top multifunctional player he is today by the 62-year-old coach. 

"Congratulations to coach Pitso, I'm very happy for him. I think he is going to do well in the national team setup because he knows this league and its players so well."

As Mosimane prepares to name his preliminary squad to face Guinea-Conakry and Eritrea in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, and also in the confirmed international friendly against Egypt. 

Players like Maboe, who were also in the preliminary squad for the World Cup, will surely be up for consideration. 

One of the things that Maboe would love to see improved in his game this season is his numbers. Last week,  he scored a penalty during the 2-2 draw against Richards Bay FC, and that was his first goal since 2021, when he scored on the 26th of May during a 3-1 win for Mamelodi Sundowns against the now-defunct SuperSport United. 

At Chiefs, Maboe has played in two positions that he’s familiar with, as an eight and also as a six. At Sundowns, he was tried in different positions, including as a 10 and also a wingback. He opened up about how Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz is utilizing him...

"Not much has changed because I'm still playing in my preferred position, but I'm asked to play in a different way because it's about what the picture looks like on the field, and that will determine the spaces I need to exploit and the positions I need to occupy."
