Agent explains thinking behind Nkota’s return to Orlando Pirates

Nkota was confirmed on Thursday to be rejoining his former club from Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Ettifaq until June next year, with the move viewed as an opportunity to secure regular game time, regain momentum following injury and remain closer to home after the recent death of his father.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Karabo Tshabuse stressed that the move should not be viewed as a step backwards, but as a decision designed to benefit Nkota’s long-term career.

"I think it's all about what Mohau needs at this particular stage of his career and his life. He has gone through a difficult season following the passing of his father, and coming back home gives him an opportunity to have a support structure around him, and most importantly he will still play professional football at the highest level."

There was overall excitement when Nkota moved for a reported fee of around R40-million to the Gulf region and Tshabuse is adamant this move is merely a detour. 

Nkota missed out on being part of Bafana Bafana’s historic appearance at the FIFA World Cup in the Americas after suffering a long-term injury just before the global showpiece. His agent hopes he can use the spell at Pirates to catch the eye of new national team coach Pitso Mosimane. 

"The injury did arrive at an unfortunate time, but such is life it's unpredictable. We believe the loan spell will help in Mohau's ability to compete again for a spot in the national team and he's going back to a place where he can get back to his best and rediscover his form."

Tshabuse revealed that the agency proposed the loan move to Pirates and the Soweto giants were only happy to help the 21-year-old find his feet again. 

She also did not rule out an early return to Saudi Arabia or a permanent deal at Pirates.
