Bafana icon Doc Khumalo gets SAFA Technical role as Modipa rises to Vice-Presidency

Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo will now join the committee responsible for appointing national team coaches and driving forward the technical vision of South African football.

Khumalo has been appointed to the SAFA Technical Committee, where he will serve as a Deputy Chairperson to the long-serving National Executive Committee (NEC) member and Chairperson, Jack Maluleke.

Khumalo played 50 matches at international level, scored nine goals, and was also a member of the 1996 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Bafana winning team under the late Clive Barker.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan says “16V” is happy to serve in this committee.

"Appointed Doctor Khumalo as a vice president of SAFA's technical committee, so you can talk to him and I spoke to him and he's quite happy to serve on this committee of SAFA," Jordaan said.

At the meeting, the SAFA NEC also elected its Vice-Presidents, and they kept almost the same team, with Tankiso Modipa as the new face in this office.

Also voted back in were Nastasia Tsichlas and Linda Zwane, with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman, Irvin Khoza, automatically becoming the fourth VP. Jordaan introduces his new VPs.

"The meeting addressed various issues, first we had to deal with a question of the vice presidents we have here at the front table. You know that the elections in SAFA, you only elect national members, the national executive members and out of those members, you then elect the three vice presidents arriving out of that pool of administrators,” he added.

“We have on my left, Mr Linda Zwane who was the vice president, served one term as vice president and now on his second term.

“Natasha Tsichlas as a vice president and the new man on the block Modipa sitting next to me, so that he became the vice president as well.

“The way in which we determine the vice president is by an open ballot, which was observed by all of the members and as the vote was counted it was displayed behind us on the screen.

“There's no question that the election showed the transparency and the commitment of SAFA to deal with these matters."
