Bafana B got a 3-0 hammering from the Angolans in yesterday’s final played in Bloemfontein.
With 12 players in this selection having come from Broos’ preliminary squad for international friendlies, Khumalo believes there were some positives for Broos to take out despite their defeat.
"This was more of a [chance] for Coach Broos to see good players in this [tournament] – others are calling it Bafana Bafana 'Lite' or Bafana Bafana 'Team B'," said Khumalo.
"But it was for them to be seen through a tournament like this, your COSAFA and your CHAN, that's where you always say Coach Broos will be able to identify one or two players to say, 'These are the ones I'll take to the real Bafana Bafana first team.'"
Angola brought senior team head coach Pedro Goncalves to the tournament, while Bafana went with two separate squads – one for the international friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique and the other in Bloemfontein.
Khumalo says the objectives were not the same.
"Look, you're playing Angola with their first team and first team coach, so these are the players who want to impress the coach the most, and they were consistent in how they played football," he added.
"If you look at domination of the game, that is not their strength, but they know how to play to win, and they did not do much – they were so conservative, I don't know if that's the kind of football they're playing.
"But, with us, we dominated but without converting our chances, which has always been our challenge, but these are the lessons for us to see how we can help the strikers so that we are technically good and have good strikers to have better balances team in the future."
