Ricardo Goss set for bigger role at Mamelodi Sundowns this season

The Bafana international joined Sundowns from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits in 2020 but has spent much of his time away on loan, first at SuperSport United whose status was later sold to Siwelele.

Now back at Chloorkop, coach Miguel Cardoso says Goss features in his plans for the new season, with the Portuguese mentor outlining how he intends to utilise the 32-year-old shot-stopper.

"Regarding Ricardo, look Ricardo's quality is undeniable. Ricardo was here a long time ago, last time in the prime of Denis Onyango and he was involved on the business of Ronwen so when Ronwen came to the club he went out and we felt that naturally it would be a good opportunity to bring him back," Cardoso said. 

Cardoso would not describe Goss as a back-up to first choice keeper Ronwen Williams.

"He's a qualified player, last year we had here and there some issues with Ronwen. You remember that there were some matches he could not play and we need that capacity to give rest to players that play so much that almost don't rest on transitions of seasons so that throughout the season we can also give rest,” the coach added.

“He didn't come to substitute no one but he came to fight for a place that he has all the qualities to do."
