Tuks aim to maintain league status over contending for the title

Pretoria University coach Maude Khumalo says her priority this season is to maintain their league status, rather than contending for the title.

Tuks have gone five games unbeaten in the first quarter of the 2024 Hollywoodbets Super League season, finding themselves in 4th place on the log with 12 points even with Mamelodi Sundowns and newcomers Copper Belts FC.

Khumalo says even though she is not setting her sights on the league title, winning home games will draw her closer.

''With me it's all about maintaining the league status and also competing. It's not about winning the league for me but who knows - anything is possible, because the games are different. So if we win most of our home games, then we will stand a chance,'' said Khumalo.

Khumalo is currently preparing for their 7th league game against City lads on Saturday at the University of Pretoria Stadium and says she foresees a tough encounter but plans to make use of their home ground advantage and to keep a clean sheet at home.

''The game vs City Lads, I know they have been struggling and I know that they will come strong against us. But for me, I will take advantage of the home game and look forward to collecting the three points and keeping a clean-sheet at home,'' added Khumalo.

The AmaTuks mentor feels it is important for the competition to elevate in the league so that a new title holder can be introduced and fresh talent to be discovered.

''I think it is great seeing teams upping their game, the league needs to be interesting so that we don't have only one team winning the league,'' she concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns remain the most successful team in the Hollywoodbets Super League with four titles in their belt.
