Trevor Mathiane confident as Marumo Gallants relegation threat persists

Marumo Gallants interim coach Trevor Mathiane expressed confidence that his team will survive relegation this season, despite sitting precariously in 14th position on the Betway Premiership standings.

Gallants drew 1-1 against Sekhukhune United yesterday, with a point not really doing much for their survival aspirations as they are now just one point above 15th-placed Magesi FC with four games remaining.

Mathiane boldly declared, after that match at Peter Mokaba Stadium, that his team has enough quality to make sure they remain in the top flight next season.

"I do have confidence in my players, there's quality in our team. Compared to other teams, I feel like there's more quality in our team," said Mathiane.

"We have players that are well experienced, we have youngsters that are pushing, so I'm quite happy with the team that we have.

"So going forward, I know we'll fight until the end, and I know we will get out of that position."

Mathiane says a point at Sekhukhune for them is precious cargo at this late stage of the season, and believes they will be able to collect the necessary points for safety when playing at home.

"Remember we were playing away, so a draw was better than nothing. We were playing against Sekhukhune, we were not playing other teams below," he added.

"Against Sekhukhune we got a point, so I'm happy with a point. We still have games that we need to win at home, so at home we'll make sure to go all out and collect three points."

Three of Gallants' last four matches are at home at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium – against TS Galaxy, Richards Bay, and Stellenbosch FC.
